Takashi Kurokawa received an M.S. in mathematics from the University of Tokyo in 1991 and received a Ph.D. in Engineering from Akita University in 2023.

He was a researcher at the Information-Technology Promotion Agency, Japan (IPA), from 2001 to 2003, and a guest researcher at the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) from 2004 to 2007. He engaged in research and development on cryptography and the CRYPTREC project. He joined NICT fully in 2010.
